Innovation and Research

The Problem:

We are losing our technological edge in the world because of insufficient funding for basic research and development in recent years. In the mean time, our primary competitors are increasing funding for these areas.

Background:

For the past thirty years and more, America has led the world economically primarily because we have been the primary innovators of the world. Today we spend less on research and development than we did thirty years ago. If we are to grow our economy and be competitive as a global power, we must return to basic research and to develop the innovational forces of our past.

The Solution:

The government must provide incentives to private industry and to academia to pursue Basic Research and Innovation. Each Governmental Agency should be required to have a robust Research and Innovation Department. These agencies should not only conduct internal research but should also issue grants to private industry and academia to do research tin their areas of interest.
